Right then, plenty of action in the first session but this is just the beginning and now both teams will look to find some consistency in the post-Lunch session. England will look to get through to the Lankan tail whereas DDS and Co will look to lose as few wickets as possible while mustering up some vital runs. Dinesh ChandimalÂ continued to hold up one end as skipper Dhananjaya de SilvaÂ took on the mantle of keeping the scoreboard ticking and another budding partnership was formed only to be broken less than 10 minutes before the Lunch break as a ball from Shoaib BashirÂ kept really low and caught Chandimal on the pads right in front of the stumps. This halted Sri Lanka yet again and they went into the interval having lost half their side.

However, Mark WoodÂ then came into the attack and he started firing on all cylinders right away, bowling in excess of 145 kph for fun and he made the ball really shoot off the deck. Kusal Mendis was on the receiving end of a nasty delivery that caught him on the already injured right thumb and the Lankans had to rebuild yet again.

The day began with fairly blue skies but the English opening bowlers made the new ball talk well. Chris WoakesÂ kept hitting the right lengths and Gus AtkinsonÂ used the scrambled seam to good effect. The par had the opposition reeling at 6/3 after which there was some resistance.Â Kusal MendisÂ and the experienced Dinesh ChandimalÂ then stitched together a steady stand as the new ball bowlers wore and Mendis then took on the inexperienced Matthew Potts.

DAY 1, LUNCH BREAK!Â A brisk first session on Day 1 of the first Test match and at the end of it, hosts England have done a huge amount of damage after Sri Lanka opted to bat first. Five wickets fell and it didn't even look that difficult of a pitch to bat on with 80 runs being scored in 25 overs.
