Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a 35-year-old software engineer, Ritesh Kumar, burned himself to death as he was duped by an agent who had promised a seat for his son in a top private school.

Ritesh, who was working with a private firm in Marathahalli, set himself on fire last Thursday and died the next day, as per India Today.

According to the report, he was cheated by an agent Adtiya Bajaj of Rs 1.25 lakh.

The agent, who owned a tuition centre, had demanded a total sum of Rs 6 lakh, out of which Ritesh had paid Rs 2.5 lakh in advance, for admission of his seven-year-old son.

When the admission did not happen, Kumar asked for his money back.

The agent returned Rs 1.25 lakh to Kumar. However, he again promised a seat for Kumar's son in the next academic year.

At the same time, Bajaj also sought ten days time to return rest of the money.

After which, Kumar reached Bajaj's office carrying a bottle of petrol and as per the police, poured petrol on himself.

Tragically, he caught fire when he lit the matches to threaten Bajaj, the report says. Kumar succumbed to his burns at Victoria Hospital.

Bajaj was also badly injured in the incident but is said to be out of danger. He has been booked for abetment of suicide and cheating.

On the other hand, the Kumar's wife, Parul Mahensaria, says that Bajaj abetted her husband to immolate himself.
