Yuvraj Singh: Ashish Nehra was the best bowler in last two IPL seasons

New Delhi: World Cup winners Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra have made a comeback in the national team after being named in the T20 squad for the forthcoming Australia tour.

Ahead of the ICC World T20, scheduled to take place in India from March 2016, both the ageing cricketers have a golden opportunity to seize the moment by giving their best shot Down Under.

Delhi pacer Nehra, who is making a comeback in the national team after a gap of four-and-a-half years, was certainly the biggest surprise, when the national selectors announced the T20 squad for the overseas tour.

But Yuvraj is thrilled with the comeback of Nehra.

“...more than myself I am happy for him (Nehra). I have watched him since the initial days of my career when we started to play together. He has battled a lot of injuries and worked insanely hard always.

“Recently, I would say that he was the best bowler in the last two IPL seasons. It is heartening to see him get rewarded for that and I am thrilled for him,” Yuvi told bcci.tv on Thursday.

The 34-year-old, Yuvraj also justified the inclusion of Punjab team-mate Harbhajan Singh in the 15-member squad.

“Bhajji is a legend and he definitely deserved another chance. He bowled really well in the ODI series against South Africa. He has been there for a while now,” Yuvi added.

Two other members of the Punjab team -- Gurkeerat Mann and Barinder Sran -- have also made it to the Indian ODI squad.

“I am extremely happy for Barinder; he is a very good left-armer, and I have been watching him since he played U-19 and U-23 cricket. He has been bowling really well and now has the opportunity to represent India. Gurkeerat has been doing well for us for quite a while now. I hope when these boys do get an opportunity, they step up to the plate and do well for India.” said proud all-rounder Yuvraj.
