Karnataka bypoll results 2018: Will work with Congress to win all 28 LS seats, says CM Kumaraswamy

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure to that no untoward incident takes place during the counting of votes.

BENGALURU: Congress and JDS have secured a massive lead in four out of five seats, while BJP is leading in just one seat. As per latest reports, Congress' Nyamagouda has won the Jamkhandi assembly seat while Ugrappa is leading in Bellary seats respectively. JDS' Anitha Kumaraswamy and Shivaramegowda have bagged Ramanagaram and Mandya seats.

BJP's Raghavendra has won the Shimoga LS seat.

Counting of votes for three Lok Sabha seats of Shimoga, Bellary and Mandya, and two assembly constituencies of Jamakhandi and Ramanagara began on Tuesday morning. The counting is being held at five centres, one each in five constituencies. 

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure to that no untoward incident takes place during the counting of votes, police officials said.

A total of 31 candidates were are contesting from all the five constituencies. The results of the bypolls are being viewed as a litmus test for the ruling Congress-JDS alliance and Opposition BJP. 

In the fray are Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's wife Anita Kumaraswamy, state BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa's son B Y Raghavendra and former Chief Minister S Bangarappa's son Madhu Bangarappa and others.

"This elections was the first step. There are 28 Lok Sabha seats, we'll work with Congress to win all of them, that is our goal. This is not an empty boast just because we have won today. This is the confidence of people in us. This win is not making us arrogant," said Karnataka CM.
