National Cricket Selectors have made significant changes to the Indian cricket squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. In a strategic move, captain Rohit Sharma, senior batsman Virat Kohli, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have been rested for the first two ODIs to ensure their physical and mental well-being before the ODI World Cup. KL Rahul has been named captain in their absence. The selectors have introduced off-spinner R Ashwin and spinner Washington Sundar into the squad, possibly as a contingency plan in case Axar Patel, who is recovering from an injury, is unable to participate. The inclusion of Ashwin hints at a potential World Cup role if Axar doesn't recover in time.

The first two ODIs will see newcomers Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Washington Sundar in action, while the experienced trio of Rohit, Virat, and Hardik will return for the third ODI. The selectors will assess Axar Patel's fitness closer to the third match.
