Living out of our car was worth it, says Hilary Swank

London: Hilary Swank, who has twice won a Best Actress Oscar, said that her mother Judy taught her to overcome personal problems. The 38-year-old actress told the Sun that her mother`s marriage to her father collapsed, she lost her job and the family had little money but though she was unhappy and uncertain, she smiled through it and believed in Hilary. The `Boys don`t Cry` star asserted that her family slept in the car but Hilary didn`t see it as anything sad or bad as she was about to live her dream. Hilary said that during the day, Judy would go to a pay phone with piles of quarters and dial agents trying to convince them to see me saying that she had a daughter who was beautiful and talented and they should meet her, the answer was no most of the times. She said that now when the mother-daughter looked back they see it as an adventure, which was very scary Later Hilary was signed up by a kids` agent called the Harry Gold Agency, who were also representing Leonardo DiCaprio. She said that a teacher once told her that the definition of luck is when preparation meets opportunity and her mother had got her prepared - and was seeking just an opportunity. She also recalled saying in her first Oscar acceptance speech that "Mom, it looks like living out of our car was worth it." Hilary added that her mother somehow instilled in her a belief that she was going to be OK and when her father left when she was six, they moved to a trailer park and told her mother to just get divorced as she was unhappy.
